Come to think of it, looking at AJ, it doesn't seem that people really care that monkeys are about to go extinct... I haven't seen anyone running around as the soon-to-be-rare animals...

Sorry I haven't posted for a few days... I haven't been able to get on AJ at the time I have access to it (the servers are too full - or, really, I can't reach the server selector!).
ANYWAY, I tried to get on today, and I checked TDE to find THIS article:

Endangered Monkeys

All over the world, different plants and animals grow, live, and thrive. But because of things like hunting, disease, pollution, and habitat loss, sometimes plants and animals can become EXTINCT, which means there are no more of that species alive on the planet.
When a plant or animal is in danger of becoming extinct, they are called ENDANGERED. Endangered animals have very small numbers, and care must be taken to assure their survival.
Sadly, we will soon have an endangered species in Jamaa. Have you noticed that there aren’t very many monkeys running and playing around? Just like dozens of monkey species around the planet, the monkeys in Jamaa are disappearing.
In a few weeks, monkeys in Jamaa will officially be classified as endangered, and Jammers will no longer be able to make new monkeys! You will still be able to play as any monkeys that you have, but YOU ONLY HAVE A FEW WEEKS TO BECOME A MONKEY before they become endangered!

Isn't it sad? I mean, sure, I've never been a monkey, but... still! What about the kids that their favorite animals ARE monkeys, and they join AFTER AJ HQ gets rid of them?
I have a feeling this is going to be a very... bad... thing for AJ. It's going to repel players - if they want to be a monkey, let them be a monkey, I say!
It's just another way to drive people to get a membership. Chances are, they're just going to turn monkeys into a members-only animal when they go 'extinct'. Aren't there already ENOUGH of those already? The next thing will be taking away koalas, or pandas, or tigers! Every single one of the non-member animals is going extinct (except for wolves, I believe... they're recovering in the US). Eventually it's going to end up turning AJ into a pay-to-play game, so that even a dream I had a LONG time ago comes true (I can't remember where it was posted, but I remember it very well: it was about the fact that even adding BUDDIES was members-only)!
So, let's list off the animals, the ones that will be left after this. The closer they are to the bottom of the list, the more likely they are to go extinct soon:
Wolves
Seals
Bunnies
TigersKoalas
Pandas
*6 ANIMALS REMAINING UNTIL NON-MEMBER EXTINCTION*
Take a look back at this old post too.The point about endangered animals that AJ HQ is, like bunnylove said all those months ago, looking to make an excuse to have more members-only things.
And NOW, they're planning on making non-members EXTINCT!
Well, AJ HQ, if you're reading this, it's not going to work! You're going to be preventing new people - some that might have even become members - from joining if you would do that! See my point?
Well, I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do now... let's just see what happens from here on out. Chances are likely that this post will have to be put in action (at least for the non-members) in the near future. In which case, we really should ALL do it if it comes down to it.

Well, there's supposed to be new stuff today, so while I wait for AJ to get to the server selector...
Enjoy this fun joke!
Once, there were three guys going hunting in the woods. Two were really smart and one was really dumb.
So the first guy goes out into the woods and, two hours later, comes back with a HUGE black bear. The other two ask him, "How'd you get that bear?"
Then the guy said, "I followed the bear tracks and it led me to the bear."
Then the second guy goes out into the woods, and an hour later, he comes back with a 20-point buck. The other two ask him, "How'd you get that buck?"
Then the guy said, "I followed the deer tracks and it led me to the deer."
So then the third guy goes out into the woods. Three days later, an ambulance backs up into their campsite and the guy, in a full-body cast, is hauled out on a stretcher and set down. The other two scream, "WHAT HAPPENED????"
And the guy said, "I followed the train tracks and it led me to the train."

Animal Jam Everloop

Hello everyone!
Well, apparently I'm a few days late in delivering this news, but AJ now has a page on Everloop, a place kinda like Facebook/Twitter for kids. Apparently AJ has had their Everloop page since early September (the first comment was on September 9th) and only told the general public about it now.
I haven't gotten my account validated yet (once I can check my Gmail I will) but for now I'm looking around the site. I think AJ might get some more attention out of this.
So, while I wait to get the stuff for Rare Item Monday, enjoy that piece of news.

Interview: Stallion1

You may know a jammer named Stallion1. She is a rare collector that has one of the only RED WORN BLANKETS in all of jamaa. Today I interviewed her. She has played animal jam for about 5 months. She traded for the red worn blanket so she does not know where it comes from. She traded A TON for it...and she got it from: louietheman. We are now in the process of tracking him down. More information will be provided in future posts.

There are 8 colors of worn blankets.

3 Rare: (from Halloween) Cream, greenish, gray/black, and pink.

1 semi-rare: Purple (from leap year party)

3 known extreme rare BETA: blue, red, and brown.

Note: I think the red may be mistaken for brown, but you never know....

Shaman Focus: Cosmo

Cosmo the koala Shaman is an expert herbalist. He makes up for his small stature by being very animated and cheerful about everything, and feels that even a small person can have a big personality. Cosmo is a true academic, and loves to study books and do field research. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and their uses, and he's often consulted by other shaman about threats to the natural world. He acknowledges the spiritual world but prefers to concentrate on things that he can see and touch... and eat. As a mentor to new koalas in Jamaa, Cosmo is friendly and patient with beginners. He's a natural born teacher and loves taking a group of students out into a field to study plants. ~AJ Legends

It's hard to know where the koala shaman lives, no obvious markings can be found anywhere, and it's possible that his home disappeared from a previous remodel of the lands. This was proven by the fact that Sir Gilberts cave was removed from Crystal Sands with the most recent update. The pots in Coral Canyons do look like a thing he would hang up, being a herbalist and all.

Cosmo's home is actually (based on the fact that he is a koala) probably somewhere in Appondale.
However, on one of the old banners that decorated the old Animal Jam site, one of them showed Cosmo in Sarepia Forest. Another one showed Greely in Mt. Shiveer near the Hot Cocoa Hut (with no sign), and a third showed Peck in Appondale near the tree.
The thing is, AJ HQ was giving mixed signals on where the shamans lived. For example, Peck's Art Room (where she's supposed to live) is in Coral Canyons, not Appondale. And also, there's a wolf carving on the wall in Coral Canyons (and in an old, old newspaper, Greely said that an ancient wolf pack lived and died there). Finally, there's no evidence at all of where Cosmo's home should be, but most likely (based on the things koalas eat) it would be in Appondale, Jamaa Township, or the Lost Temple of Zios.
When we bring the other Shamans into the equation, we see that Greely and Peck are sharing a home (Coral Canyons), Liza is nowhere at all (or is in Jamaa Township... where does she introduce all of the newbies?) Cosmo lives in two unconnected lands (Appondale and the Lost Temple of Zios), Sir Gilbert's home in Crystal Sands is only partially his (the water slides destroyed "Sir Gilbert's Mouth" as some called it), and Graham is probably hanging out with Cosmo in the Lost Temple of Zios, again sharing a home.
And that's only counting the Shamans that we have color photos of. There are more, as there are other statues in Mystery Emporium that have names, which imply that they are Shamans.

'Extinct' Shamans

Hello everyone...
Has anyone noticed that the Shamans have gone extinct?
The only places you can find traces of evidence of them anymore is in the Chamber of Knowledge. There's one room that's lined with busts of their heads, and then there's the shop that shows their names (and, of course, people's dens).
Otherwise... the shamans have completely disappeared from Animal Jam, when they used to be the crowned jewel of it all.
Where have they gone?
I actually have a few theories on this.
1. AJ HQ doesn't have enough time to play as the Shamans anymore, and so they slowly removed them from the game.
2. A bunch of parents are concerned that their kids will start believing in Mira and the Shamans instead of their God(s)/Goddess(es).
Both of the theories have ample evidence supporting them: For example, Mira has faded from 'All-Powerful Ruler of Jamaa' to 'The bird statue you can find in Jamaa Township'. That actually supports both of them at once.
Also, the Shamans (when they actually existed in-game) were hardly ever online: I never saw a SINGLE shaman. Not one.
And then there's the stuff with 'marriages' and 'pups' and 'school': Some kids take the game REALLY seriously, and turn it into a RLRP (Real Life Role-Play: people act out what their lives might be like / are like).
These all are supporting reasons under the arguments on why the Shamans have gone extinct.
I wouldn't be surprised if, soon enough, they put all the Shaman statues into the Animal Museum, except they don't have the shaman names anymore.

Hello everyone!
Well, today is Rare Item Monday, so I went to check it out!

Scared...

Okay, so... I was just REALLY. REALLY. SCARED.
For one thing, none of my den items were showing up... at all. Which was exactly the way my den looked before the last hacking.
And then I couldn't see them on my trade list, either. So I go on AJ on Internet Explorer (I use Firefox more often) on a different account (NO, you can't know it!) and... all my items are there, BUT there's an extra elephant throne in there.
I don't know WHO put that there... I haven't traded for an extra elephant throne!... but I'm changing my password to one of higher security now. *shivers*
And I might send my extra rares to a friend for safekeeping. That part isn't guaranteed, but I'm SCARED.
OKAY, I'm REALLY scared now. REALLY SCARED. Even in Internet Explorer I can't see them and edit my den! And there's no den items that I can put on my trade list!
Okay, let's see now... need to do this, need to do that... Okay, people, I'm just currently checking items off of my list of what to do in an apocalypse. Surprisingly, I'm not nearly as scared anymore now that I know what to do...

UPDATE: Wait... what the heck?
Okay, I'm still backing up my stuff, but... now I'm seeing my stuff in the exact same spots as they were in mine... in my OTHER ACCOUNT's den.
Except it's more like a strange morphing of our two dens.
And my other account can't see the items in its den either! This glitch keeps getting weirder and weirder... I'm not sure anymore if it's a hacker, cuz they would have to be pretty skilled if they were!
Well, I don't know! I will continue my backup!
UPDATE 2: Well, my other account has had to go back for gems 3 times (even with the Pest Control cheat (see Minigame Cheats page), the 45-a-pop takes a lot out of you), and during that time, I thought over a few things.
Thing 1: This is a huge glitch that AJ HQ hasn't figured out how to fix.
Thing 2: AJ HQ is having a big laugh in the office right now over this. Cruel, people! Cruel!
Thing 3: This is an experiment AJ HQ is running to test what's best to do in case of a hacking. Some players know how to avoid something like this, and so they're doing one of these things and tracking us to see what we do. I'm not sure how likely this is... but if this is what's going on, I'll follow along.
UPDATE 3: Item transfer completed. If this is a hacker, and they still get my stuff, at least I went down fighting.

Animal Jam to Real Life : Time Ratio Calculations/Theory

Did you ever wonder exactly how old your animal jam character was in terms of age? Some people will say, "Oh my character is 2 because i have played for 2 years." Well yes, they are 2 in Real Life Time (RLT) But what about Animal Jam Time? (AJT)

I have thought about this for a while. Today i will calculate an approximate Animal Jam to Real Life Time Ratio. Im not so good at math but I will try my best.

I think it is safe to assume that the average game play time on Animal Jam is 2 hours. So that means 2 hours would be a full day in the "animal jam world."

So 2 hours RLT = 24 hours AJT

Now that we have that basic foundation we can use it to determine: How long is 6 months in animal jam in real time? As a leader of an animal jam clan i get asked this question alot : "How long is six moons (months) in real life?" They ask this because they are wondering when exactly there apprentice ceremonies should be. So lets figure this out if you hadn't already done so in your head.

Using the little formula above we know that...

4 hours RLT = 48 hours AJT

8 hours RLT = 96 hours (4 days) AJT

and so on....

I'm seeing a pattern! how about you? The pattern is: # of RLT hrs x 12 = # of AJT hrs!

So how many hours are in a month? (lets just use 30 days)

24 (hours in day) x 30 (days) = 720 hours in one month. (in real)

If there are 720 hours in a real month, how much time passes in animal jam during a real month? Lets use our pattern! 720 x 12 = 8, 640

This means that 8, 640 hours pass in animal jam time during a 720 hr real time period (in terms of roleplay, not litteraly of course).

8, 640 hours = 360 DAYS wow! This means that 30 days in REAL equal 360 days in ANIMAL JAM.

WAIT this means that your character ages about a year in animal jam each real month! (because there are 365 days in a year and 360 is very very close to that so i round up.)

If you have played for exactly a year (12 months) your animal jam character would be 12 years old. (give or take 5 days)

This is how to find the age of your character....

-figure out exactly how many months you have played animal jam.

-The number of months you have played is almost exactly the number of years your character is

For example.....

I will calculate the age of my animal jam character so that you guys can understand better.

I joined animal jam December 2010. So i have played for 16 months.

- 16 months RLT = 16 years AJT

Awesome that is close to my age! =D

If your character is a wolf you can convert the years into dog years.

Wow this means that my Wolf is 80! that makes sense because i am an elder (well now a leader)

You do not have to use the dog years if you don't want to. I think it is safe to assume that a magical world like Jamaa does not have Dog years.

Okay, back to the original question.

What about six months animal jam time? How long is that in real?

All we have to do is divide by 2.

If 12 months AJT= 1 month RLT

then 6 months AJT = 15 days RLT

So if you are an apprentice or kit in animal jam, you only have to wait 15 days for your cerimony. That is around 2 weeks.

Extreme Freezer Burn Glitch!

Hello everyone!
Woodswolf here, reporting an EPIC GLITCH!
Okay, so, everyone knows that you can go get freezer burned in the Snow Fort den, right?
Well, there's actually a way to get EXTREME FREEZER BURN - you turn COMPLETELY SOLID BLUE.
Here's how.
Step 1: Go to Appondale. Get ALL muddy. The muddiest you can get! I dare you! Well, that, and it's required.

Step 2: QUICKLY, go to your (or a friend's) Snow Fort den and climb to the Freeze Tower. You will immediately get EXTREME FREEZER BURN!

So, I hope this helps!

Hello everyone!
Well, today the world of Jamaa needs a MINIMUM speed!
I just sat there for five minutes while my Journey Book was loading. And that's NOT all of the pages, either!
Plus, it took me just about five minutes to get in... and around half an hour before that trying to have it not go into 'loading purgatory'.
And it took fifteen minutes for Mt. Shiveer's background music to start playing.
And there's a delay in chat messages. A BIG ONE.
Now I fear every time I click a button!
Well, at least my 'Switch Animals' screen was up to speed!
Or not. It just gave me the 'Are you still there?' message while it was loading my seal.

And, in the newspaper, there's yet another piece of proof that octopi (plural of 'octopus') will be released soon. Except that they make it more general, saying that it 'could be a pet, or an animal, etc.'

So technically, no, it's not an octopus... it's a SQUID that's going to come out next.

Unless if they bring up the Squidward Philosiphy:

Squidward is an octopus. The animators just didn't want to have to draw two more arms/legs.

So, anyway, we'll be seeing octopus/squid things coming up in the next few weeks. Maybe it will be this week's newspaper, maybe the next one.

My guess? Since they were bragging about a 'big secret' to be released... unless the squid things are going to be for Second-Teir Membership (In other words, a more expensive membership option that unlocks even MORE stuff than regular membership does), or they're going to release a few lands/oceans at the same time... My guess is that we will be seeing more posts like this in the near future.

AJ HQ MANUFACTURING RARES

Hello everyone!
Well, we now say goodbye to the fourth Rare Item Monday! Yay.
Now we get an update in two days! YAY!
Anyway... here's what I wanted to tell you guys about.
You know the Lionfish Armor that came out this week? You know, that weird stuff with the fins and stripes that you've suddenly seen on everyone?
Well, believe it or not, it's a rare.
Yep, I can already hear the alarm bells ringing! WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?
Like that. Really loud. Cuz a billion people are shouting it.
Yes, that's right! AJ HQ has decided to be really cheap on us. In other words, if you're waiting for an actual member rare to come back out? It's not going to for a while.
Here's what they've been doing based on the pattern of the last two weeks: On the first RIM (Rare Item Monday), they released an actual rare item: gloves. On the second, they 'manufactured' a rare by shoving it in the stores for one day and taking it right back out. I can't remember what it was, actually.
On the third RIM, they did the same thing as the first: released an actual rare item, in this case, fox hats.
On the fourth (today), they released the final piece of the Lionfish Armor set, all of which will be removed by tomorrow.
Cheap, much? They're saving up the real rares so that they can repeat this cycle for years and years on end. And they're making more so that it can repeat for longer.
It's effective, yes... but the problem with a system like this is that eventually EVERYTHING is a rare except for a few select items that have remained in the shops forevermore. The ones that have never seen the light of a "NEW!" or "CLEARANCE" sign. The ones that no one cares about, period, the end.
And once everything is a rare...
...nothing is.

Achievement Spree and NEW Minigame Cheats Page!

Hello everyone!
Well, some of you may have known me as Woodswolf, The One Who Never Has To Play Minigames Because She Uses Codes And Hardly Spends Anything!
Well, when they were in stores recently... heh... I bought... heh... heh heh... eight white gloves.
So, now, I'm going on a GEM-EARNING SPREE! But the thing is, I'm doubling its purpose!

Looks like I'm gonna have to go spam Temple of Trivia eventually... there's actually a really easy way to cheat to win that one. I'll post about it sometime, assuming it still works. Let's try it...

Uhm... Has Anyone Seen Anything Weird Recently?

Well, I'm not sure WHAT is going on, but at least I THINK I haven't been hacked!
Yes, yes, I have no idea what's going on. But for some reason, I can't log on to WolfoftheWoods!
So, yeah. I logged on to my other secret account that I'm not telling anyone the username of (safety reasons - if there's another hacking crisis, I'm going to NEED something secret!) and checked my den. Everything's still there, and from what I can tell, I still have all my clothes.
But I didn't request my password to be changed...?
Anyway, because I only have two land animals on the secret account, I can't check the underwater shops, but I have checked the land shops, and there is a new Latvia flag in the Flag Shop.

Tail Items Soon Coming To AJ?

Hello everyone!
Some of you may have heard of the notorious sizzlerat, the only Jammer who has been seen with a TAIL ITEM.
Here's a picture:

Now, just recently, apparently (I checked the morning I found out - this morning - and it didn't work, but it worked for Awesome Tinygirl the night before) AJ HQ removed sizzlerat from the search.
Here's what you get when you search for sizzlerat:

The usual "That Jammer couldn't be found!" message, you know the drill.
BUT... look at the color of the tail item.
It's pink. With red gems on it.
WHAT holiday is coming up, with the usual colors of pink, red, white, and purple?
Yes, exactly. VALENTINE'S DAY.
The fact that it complies with the common rules of 'holiday colors' adds emphasis to this. Sure, it could be just that it was one of the items that, you know, was pink, for no reason whatsoever.
But it COULD be an item that IS pink for a reason.
I know we won't know for a while, probably, two weeks or so at the maximum, but then there's the fact that a while ago, there was an option for tail items. That was before they 'condensed' the menu to only include items you had.
Do you think I'm crazy?

RANT: On the Subject of Sol Arcade

Hello everyone!
This is about the new game, Phantom Invasion.
50 gems later, I only earned one lame prize: a horse toy. Sure, I might put it up in my den, but... a bit of a lame prize for 50 gems, eh?
But the next round, however, I won immediately. How do you win?
You fire a beam that matches the color of the 'Fire Any Color' sign that flashes in your face. If you match that thing's color, you blast the phantom right out of the sky.
Kind of a cheesy game if you ask me.
Anyway, this is now just on the subject of the Sol Arcade in general.
No matter how much they boast in the newspaper that it has every game in Jamaa*, it doesn't.
Where's the Halloween game, Phantoms!?
Exactly. Nowhere.
And where's Eat 'Em Up!? Or Phantom's Treasure? Or Best Dressed?
The only thing that makes it worth going there is the game Phantom Invasion. And even THAT isn't very worthwhile.

NEW STUFF!

Hello everyone!
Well, this is just great. Turns out they've discovered a way to make new items come out every day now. Sure, it's nothing special, it's just code used to delay the release of items for a few days so that they can work on next week's stuff for a little while.
But it makes MY JOB - finding the items when they're released - a whole lot harder!
So, now I have to go on AJ every day to check. ESPECIALLY Mondays, which are now Rare Item Mondays - why not pick, like, Rare Item Saturdays or something? - because a rare item will come back in the shops for one day!

Which is the same as: 16-36 = 25-45
Which can also be expressed as: (2+2) 2 (9 X (2+2) = 52) 9 X 5
Add 81/4 to both sides: (2+2) 2 (9 X (2+2) + 81/4 = 52) 9 X 5 + 81/4

3D MODELS THEORY

Hello everyone!
Well, I was just chillin' out, dancing (or whatever I was doing XD) my hearts out in Kani Cove... see, my seal already has its Valentine's Day stuff:

But then it occured to me as I was cycling through animations: Do you know how many frames/images they would have to draw to do this? The motion is absolutely perfect, so in other words the FPS (or frames per second; each frame is a seperate image) must be really high.
Each animation is about three seconds long and loops. Let's say it's 24 frames per second for a 3-second animation:
24 * 3 = 72
That's 72 frames they would have to draw for ONE CHARACTER doing ONE ACTION.
Plus, each character has its own set of actions. And each action has its own 1-3 second loop. So, let's see how many frames for one animal. I'll do a wolf, since the seal... that one has the most by far.
ACTION/# OF FRAMES*:
Standing Forward/24
Standing Backward/24
Sleeping/8
Playing/72
Dancing/72
Hopping/48
Sitting Forward/1**

I haven't repeated the ones that are just mirrored (for example, walking right is just mirroring walking left). I KNOW there's more than that, though. But let's see what our grand total is!
24 + 24 + 8 + 72 + 72 + 48 + 1 + 1 + 24 +24 +24 + 24 + 24 = 370!
370 FRAMES, PEOPLE!
And that's for one LAND-ONLY animal with NO ITEMS and BASIC COLORS.
Add an item, add another 370 frames or so.
Change the colors (they may be able to avoid this... it's specifically the items that add the frames I think), and add another 370 frames.
Want a different animal? 370 frames (minimum) a piece.
So, let's see: we have around 20 animals, well over 300 items (because rares still have to be animated on the animals) and 40 colors, not to mention patterns and stuff. That's well over 10000 frames!
So that's where the 3D models theory comes in.
In other words, every animal has their own 3D model that the AJ HQ team designs. Then they animate them in special ways, add different skins for the markings... kinda like FeralHeart. And they have the items with 3D models, too, so that they can just add one or the max of four and it will animate on its own.
Then they just make them look cartooney. Some models can be realistic enough to do that.
So, I'm not sure if this is right, but it means one of two things is true:
THING ONE: AJ HQ uses this 3D models technique and saves lots of time.
THING TWO: AJ HQ spends FAR TOO MUCH on their animation department XD

HOLY **** THERE'S TONS OF NEW STUFF!

I hate that they only do animal names, cuz there's probably 500 Mythical Frillybunnies or more now, since everyone wants to be "THE Mythical Frillybunny, winner of the contest, designer of Jamaa's flag, extremely epic, here-let-me-sign-an-autograph-for-you..."
Some of the other flag designs were REALLY EPIC, though.
Ugh, my internet is really slow right now! CURSE YOU, INTERNET!
Anyway, while it's loading a picture of a bunny hat so that I can see what color it is, OOOH it's pink! I'll get it for my Valentine's Day outfit!
Okay, that was kinda off-topic. Anyway, I'm getting my Valentine's Day stuff sorted out, so we'll have a party soon... for TWO THINGS! Hehehe...

Fanfiction Addiction!

Hello everyone!
In case if you've been wondering why I haven't been checking up on AJ or anything else very much, it's just that I've caught the FANFICTION ADDICTION!
Yes, it's true. For the past several weeks (or at least the last week) I've written A LOT of fanfiction... and it's all posted online pretty much the minute I finish it.
It's really surprisingly addicting. For example, take Minecraft, an extremely addicting game, according to a lot of people, and multiply it by three. And add a few hundred (if not a few thousand) motivation points if you get popular. AKA, it's really powerful.
And that's only writing fanfiction. Reading fanfiction is also extremely addicting... sure, it's a bit hard to find ones you might like, but if you look in a category you like (chances are it's there) you can find a lot of stories where you'll at least be half-interested in what you're reading. XD
So, that's my words on my new FANFICTION ADDICTION.

So what exactly are phantoms? as the day of phantoms approaches, many jammers have had one big question on their mind: "What exactly are phantoms?" the answer lies long ago. Mira, the sky mother, was sad that she lost her companion Zios, the sky father. her feeling of sadness and anger fell to the ground, mixed with the elements  of jamma, and formed the dark mysterious phantoms.  now, the phantoms' only goal is to bring chaos and destruction jamma. that's why we celebrate the Day of the Phantoms: to trick and tease them, preventing them from doing dark deeds
